It was only Christmas about seven minutes ago, and now somehow the kids are back at home again. Have you planned what to do with them? Hell no! Not with all the going to work and having to feed the family and all that. Who has the time to found out what’s going on? We do, that’s who.

This is your guide to the best events on offer during the February half term. We’ve broken it down by location and tried to cover a range of age groups, budgets and interests. We’re hoping this removes as much thinking for you as possible for you.

As well as events in Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs, we’ve also dug around what’s going on out in the further reaches of East Kent, and picked a few choice events up in London too. Because a 90 minute train ride is an activity, right?

Margate

Bug Week at Windmill Community Gardens (Mon, Wed-Fri)
Learn all about bugs through a variety of games and activities. Each session focusses on a different type of bug.

Year of the Snake at the Shell Grotto (Mon-Fri)
Complete a free worksheet celebrating the Chinese year of the snake as you explore the Shell Grotto.

Margate Pride medal workshop at Turner Contemporary (Wed)
As part of LGBT+ History Month, the Turner Contemporary is hosting this workshop to make a medal inspired by activism or social change.

Scalextric racing at WonderWorks (Thu-Sun)

Half Term upcycling session at Waste Will Save Us (Fri)
Take something old and turn it into something new, using fabrics, stencils and paints. Stay for the full session or just drop in.

Bricks at the Museum at RAF Manston History Museum (Daily)
See an amazing collection of Lego displays and join a Lego figure hunt to win a prize.

Ramsgate Harbour on the High Street at Discovery Planet (Tue, Wed)
On Tuesday, design and build a boat from junk modelling materials. Wednesday's drop-in sessions will have a variety of activities to demonstrate harbour skills and find out about maritime employment opportunities.

Circus workshop at Centenary Hall (Wed)
These workshops hosted by This Bean Spins are loads of fun. Kids will get to learn circus skills, play games, be put inside a bubble, and have an LED hula hoop disco.

The Micro Museum (Sat)
This vintage computer and retro gaming museum is very briefly opening its doors today, before closing them again until April, so be quick! Combine your visit with one to the neighbouring This Museum Is (Not) Obsolete.

Kinder Crafts at Kinder Collective (Daily)
Children’s clothes shop will offer craft making and activity sheets throughout half term.

Helmet up and hone those skateboarding and scooting tricks, as well as other activities.

Book readings and activities at The Happy Reading Bookshop (Wed-Sat)
Various authors, including Isadora Moon writer Harriet Muncaster, will be at the Happy Reading Bookshop to read from their stories, lead creative activities and sign their books.

Bushcraft Experience at Wildwood (Daily)
Try your hand at bushcraft and learn more about the animals that live at Wildwood.

Half Term History Makers at Dover Castle (Daily)
Enjoy some Victorian-style screen time with Happening History's lantern show, revealing how moving pictures were first shown over 100 years ago.

Mischief at the Museum: The Bugs That Came Too at The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge (Daily)
Solve six interactive Bug-themed puzzles to be in with a chance of winning £100 worth of Curzon cinema vouchers.

The Faversham Literary Festival has a great programme of kids and family events over two weekends. We highly recommend booking in to see the funny, archaic and a bit rude Olaf Falafel.

Making Egypt at Young V&A (Daily)
The Young V&A’s new exhibition explores ancient Egyptian creativity and its influence on art, design and popular culture today.
