Fun things to get you out and about in Margate.

LGBTQIA+ open mic event Queer Diary is coming to Tom Thumb Theatre on June 6. You can come along and listen to adults regale moments of their awkward youths, from first crushes to gothy phases. The second edition of the Margate Assembly Acoustic returns to Margate Off Licence, May 30, 6pm-10pm. The first one was packed, so expect the same this time round as Death Star Laser Eye Surgery, Kkailou, Luke & Oli, Tom Pitts and Daisy Beau take the stage. 1 Ethelbert Terrace, CT9 1RX,

Wine bar and restaurant Pomus has opened up in The Centre, with MasterChef finalist Tony Rodd in the kitchen. With an emphasis on low waste seasonal cooking, dishes are designed to be shared and include the likes of tuna tartare, duck hearts with blueberry, and barbecued onglet.

Bomba Doughnuts opens up in the Old Kent Market this weekend for a glutinous, decadent treat. With flavours like the vegan peanut butter and jam doughnut, or the custard and lemon curd ones, it’s just a matter of working out how many is too many.

Renu Hossain, a percussionist, tabla player and composer among other things going by the name RENU will perform their 2017 album They Dance in the Dark live at Turner Contemporary. Stick around for the Q&A after the show on Wednesday, May 29, 5.45pm - 8pm. It’s free, but book.

Also at Turner Contemporary, Ed Clark opens on Saturday, May 25, running until September 1. A pioneering American abstractionist from the 1950s, he employed unconventional tools and techniques to explore colour and form while taking inspiration from landscapes as varied as Greece, Brazil and Chicago. Lovelys Gallery on Northdown Road is running a series of monthly Saturday workshops. First up, Broadstairs artist and illustrator Karen King takes an acrylic painting workshop that has a coastal theme Saturday June 22. Margate illustrator Megan Metcalf will lead a collage class in August, while Amy Moss will host a drop in drawing session on July 27 (free). Other workshops are £35. lovelysgallery.co.uk

Dream volunteer job here - Crab Museum are looking for people to chat about crabs with punters. You’ll learn a lot about lots of stuff no doubt, that extends beyond your understanding of crustaceans, while being part of one of the best museums around. Head to their Instagram to say hello.

Bar Nothing hosts a Rock N Roll Bar Boot this Sunday, May 26, 12pm-5pm. Rifle through rockstar tat including books, vintage stuff, plants and records. A tarot card reader will be on hand, while Lo Barnes will bring the music. Coffee, booze and Indian food are on hand also. 

For bank holiday partying and good times, try Jerry and Raggamuffin’s DJ set at Sargasso on Sunday May 26, 7pm until late, Faith In Strangers hosts 90s ravers Richard Fear­less, of Death in Vegas, and Matt Walsh on Sunday, May 26 and rockers The Kairos play Justine’s on Saturday May 25, in a gig raising money for  the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Where Else hosts I’m Not Kara-Okay, an alternative karaoke night on Friday May 31. This is your chance to belt out Slipknot, Korn and your favourite emo tracks from your goth youth.  Tickets £8.30.
