Mergate, Margate's Mermaid Parade returned this year for the second time, yesterday, June 1, celebrating the town's coastal spot and its people in a flourish of aquamarine sequins and glitter.
Taking its cues from Coney Island's Mermaid Parade, the march, and wider day, is a salute to seaside living and our responsibility to look after it.
At the same time, it is a joyous celebration of Margate's creative community, which has its own artistic relationship to the coast.
