Things to do: Father's Day, new bars, evening fitness

Broadstairs also gets a new cocktail bar this month. Delilah’s opens up imminently, for cocktails, whiskies and wines, at 28 Thanet Road, Broadstairs, CT10 1AN.

In Margate, but a good excuse to get out of Broadstairs or Ramsgate for the evening, Buoy & Oyster now has Thanet Thursdays, giving residents of the postcodes CT7 to CT12 a 20% discount off the a la carte food menu. You need to book and you also need to bring proof of postcode too. If Mussels are your thing, the restaurant also has unlimited mussel refills on Wednesdays.

Margate band Muckwits are hosting a BYO instrument for an improv jam session on Sunday, June 16 and every third Sunday of the month, Also, keep your eyes peeled for a digital off licence, brought to you by the same gaggle.

Primadonna and Froot singer Marina will play her only UK show of 2024 at BST Hyde Park on July 13. The eclectic Welsh art-popstress will support Kylie and tickets, from £123, are still available, but selling quick. Stevie Nicks, Shania Twain and Sza also play the festival.

Theatre company, Viscem perform Wormhole at Omnibus Clapham, London, a play about domestic abuse, power and escapism. The one woman show features Victoria Yeates, who has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Call The Midwife and Fantastic Beasts. Running July 23-31, tickets £16/£18.

Margate gets a new coffee shop in the Old Town. Giant Coffee has opened up at 5 Market Street, serving up coffee and plant-based sweet treats.

Margate can also look forward to Lickedy Split opening. The cocktail and burgers bar is coming to the seaside soon, thanks to the Lost Soul Pizza and True Romance Pizza team in Camden, who are also part of new Filipino restaurant Fins and Tins

Bon Volks Studio hosts The Swift Weekend, running June 15-16 from their location at 12 Park Lane Margate, CT9 1RQ. The free events include a queer writers workshop, a nature writing class, a workshop by illustrator Becky Strickton, in a weekend highlighting the importance of conservation by celebrating the coming and goings of swifts. Everything is free, but book.

Margate Black Pride takes over The Sundeck on July 6, for a day of celebration, unity and fun. Starting at 3pm and running until 10pm.

Dreamland’s Summer Series kicked off yesterday, with Elbow, bringing a mixed bag of music to the shoreline from summer through to September. Something for everyone, there’s Sister Sledge, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Suede, raver tots, De La Soul and Craig David. From July 20, the park’s open every day too.

Father’s day shizzle: The Bedford Inn in Ramsgate are putting on a Sunday roast, June 16, while in Broadstairs, Reign Bar will also put on a Sunday lunch, either two or three courses for £23.95/£29.95. In Margate, Snakeoil Barbecue at Daisy is putting a smokey, steakhouse spin on a dad-centric lunch with buttered lobster and smoked prime rib on the menu. Book for all of these. Also in Margate, there's a new night for those whose dads have passed away, were/are absent, were/are a dick and for those who understand how tough that can be. Head to Wildes for the very first Dead Dads Club on the Sunday, from 3pm to 9pm, for cocktails and music and to polish what is a turd of a day for many into a diamond.

The Albion Rooms close with The Last Hurrah on June 28 with Evan Williams and June 30th with a string of performances in a night that will no doubt get messy for some.

Feast Club returns to Cliffs, on Northdown Road in Margate on June 28, for another supper club. On the menu for Vol VII, is ginger cured monkfish, roasted cauliflower with pistachio pesto and ice cream sandwiches for dessert. £45 per person, including a cocktail. DM to book your spot.

Mill Place on High Street, Margate is now open on Tuesdays for coffees, sausage rolls, sandwiches and toasties, and closed on Wednesdays. 

Northdown Brewery is now open on Sunday, from 12pm-5pm, serving beers and pizza, in addition to Friday 3pm-7pm, and 12pm-7pm on Saturday. Kids and dogs welcome. Find them at Unit J1C/Channel Road Westwood Industrial Estate Margate CT9 4JS, near B&Q. 

Chris Powers Fitness is hosting evening fitness sessions on Tuesdays at 6.30pm from June 11 at Stone Bay in Broadstairs, for post-work burpees and planking in the sand. Book here.

Just letting you know that Off the hook pizza exists at 134 High St, Margate CT9 1JW, and is open for pizza and pints in their beer garden, Friday to Sunday 11.30am-9pm.
